From the President

I’d like to start this newsletter by thanking everyone involved in the soccer community for everything they do on a daily basis to make the game of soccer what it is for the kids that are involved. As you know Missouri Youth Soccer Association is dedicated to promote, foster and perpetuate the game of soccer in the state. This would not be possible without you, the parents, coaches, volunteer’s, we are all truly all in this together to make it possible for the kids!

We are currently in a tumultuous time of our lives. I realize the many sacrifices parents face as I do myself in my life to make sure your kids are able to participate in activities such as soccer. I also realize that many of us have had to cut our budgets and trim back in areas to continue to invest in our kids. I appreciate the continue support that Missouri Youth Soccer receives in the various communities across the state, from the smaller towns to the bigger cities to make soccer available to all children. Many of you have had to adjust practice times and combine schedules to accommodate the high gas prices. By involving yourself as a parent in your children’s activities you are also investing in a lifelong relationship with them and de-stressing yourself as a parent by getting out there and encouraging them to be active.

An update to the lawsuit will be posted shortly on the Missouri Youth Soccer website as well as in the mail to all league members.

As always, if anyone ever needs to contact me please call me at 314-620-9568, or you can e-mail me at pres@mysa.org

Coaching Director

Coaching Education is a vital part of Missouri Youth Soccer Association.  The coaching license program is one way to continue coaching education.  Also available are coaching seminars specifically for certain age groups and skill levels of players.  Along with coaching seminars there are parent sessions also, “We’re All In This Together” is a program offered for Parents, Coaches and Referees.

School assemblies are a very good approach to create awareness of soccer in local communities.  Denny Vaninger, Director of Coaching Education for Missouri Youth Soccer Association is available for these events.   He is also available for any soccer related activities such as, training sessions, team coaching license classes, coaching seminars, school assemblies, etc.

You can contact Denny Vaninger @ 314-409-0300.

National Youth License

Spacing is limited and quickly filling up, don’t miss out on this opportunity to not have to travel outside Missouri to obtain your National Youth License.    Missouri Youth Soccer Association is proud to sponsor this Licensing event at the Lindenwood University.  You must be 18 years old and have a ‘D’ License or equivalent.

If you have any questions please contact Denny Vaninger, Director of Coaching and Education at the Missouri Youth Soccer Association State Office, 636-936-3676

SPENSA

The Special Needs Soccer Association, SPENSA, is a Not-for-Profit, St. Louis-based soccer program for young people with disabilities. Our program is mirrored after a national program created through the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) called "TOPSoccer" (The Outreach Program for Soccer). SPENSA is an affiliate member of the Missouri Youth Soccer Association, (MYSA). SPENSA is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl of ages 5-21 who has a mental or physical disability. It is our hope over the next few years to enable hundreds of St. Louis area special needs youth the opportunity to become a valued and successful member of the St. Louis soccer community.

SPENSA is free of charge to all of these special children. The program is funded through the generous donations of individuals, corporations and local soccer clubs.

We rely heavily on area confirmation groups, high school programs, college teams, club teams and many individuals who volunteer to be “Buddies” for the day with one to one contact and instruction for our children. The program runs 2 sessions each year, the first in the spring and second in the fall on Saturday mornings from 9-10:00 a.m. at the Anheuser Busch Soccer facility. It takes approximately 60 youth volunteers each and every Saturday. We are always looking for more volunteers and you can help by contacting Shirley McBroom at tsmcbroom@charter.net or visit our web site at www.spensa.org .
