What is the Olympic Development Program? (ODP)

The Olympic Development Program, commonly called ODP, was established in 1977 by US Soccer and the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) to dentify and develop the top youth soccer players in the United States. SYSA asks the Region and State Associations to conduct the program on the rass-roots level. Missouri Youth Soccer Association sponsors the ODP for any players who would like to participate. Players register for the Program, and then attend tryouts for the Missouri State team at their age group. The first round of tryouts are with and against the top players in that area of the State (called districts), then with and against players from throughout the entire state. These tryouts in themselves can be a good experience for players to train with other top players.

In each age group, a State Pool of players is chosen from which a State Team will be selected. This pool trains under quality coaching, and may compete against outside competition. The culmination of each ODP Season is the Region Event – either a camp or a tournament. MYSA is part of Region II of USYSA, and the region hosts events in July of each year. This allows players on the State team to train with and against the best of the best from the entire Midwest Region, train under high-quality, nationally-licensed coaches, compete against other States’ ODP teams, and be seen by many college coaches.
